Overview

This tour combines two of Mount Kenya’s most scenic trails for a truly unforgettable climb. Your ascent begins on the Chogoria trailhead, where you’ll traverse the picturesque Muiga Hills and marvel at breathtaking highlights like the Nithi Falls and tranquil Lake Ellis. For the descent, you’ll follow the drier Sirimon route, renowned for its striking dryland vegetation and unique alpine landscapes. Conveniently, our offices are right at the foothills in Nanyuki, ensuring seamless support and genuine local expertise from start to finish.

Itinerary

Day 1: Nairobi to Our Nanyuki Office For Briefing, Then Onward to Sirimon Gate

Our driver will meet you at the airport and welcome you to the most scenic ascent in Kenya. You will drive through the central highlands to our Nanyuki offices for briefing, then proceed to Sirimon Gate. After lunch, begin your hike to Judmaier Camp (Old Moses), passing forest and heathland zones. Dinner and overnight at the campsite.

Day 2: Ascent Through Mackinder’s Majesty to Shipton Camp

After breakfast, start your longest ascent, trekking past the Ontulili River into the dramatic Mackinder Valley. Enjoy views of Mt. Kenya’s peaks and alpine flora. Arrive at Shipton Camp in the afternoon. Lunch, dinner, and overnight at the camp.

Day 3: Acclimatization and Preparation For Ascent

Take a gentle trek around Shipton Camp to acclimatize. Marvel at the alpine landscape and return for lunch. Rest and prepare for the summit climb. Overnight at Shipton Camp.

Day 4: Summit Point Lenana (4985m) & Descend to 3000m

Begin your summit attempt at 3:00 am, reaching Point Lenana by sunrise. Capture stunning glacier views before descending to Mintos Camp for breakfast and continuing down to Chogoria Bandas. Dinner and overnight at the bandas.

Day 5: Descent to Chogoria Gate and Transfer Back To Nairobi

Enjoy a scenic final descent along Chogoria’s forested slopes, passing Mugi Hills and Nithi Waterfalls. Complete park formalities at Chogoria Gate and transfer back to Nairobi, concluding your Mount Kenya adventure.
