3 days Uganda bwindi gorilla trekking safari

Overview

Experience the awe-inspiring beauty of Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, home to nearly half of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas. This short yet unforgettable safari offers a chance to trek through dense tropical rainforest and come face to face with one of the most endangered primates on Earth. With comfortable lodges, scenic landscapes, and optional cultural experiences, this is a perfect itinerary for those looking to witness the majesty of gorillas in the wild.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival and Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

Your safari begins with a morning pick-up from Entebbe International Airport or your hotel in Kampala. After a short briefing, you’ll begin the scenic journey southwest to Bwindi, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its rich biodiversity and lush, mountainous terrain.

Enjoy views of Uganda’s rolling hills, rural villages, and banana plantations. A lunch stop is included—typically in Mbarara or Kabale town. Arrive at Bwindi in the late afternoon or early evening and check into your lodge.

Accommodation: Mid-range lodge (upgrades available)

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking Experience

After an early breakfast, you’ll head to the park headquarters for a pre-trek briefing. You’ll then embark on your guided trek in search of a gorilla family. The trek can last 2–6 hours, depending on the location of the gorillas.

Spend a magical hour with these gentle giants in their natural habitat. After the trek, enjoy a hot lunch back at the lodge. In the afternoon, there’s an optional cultural visit to the Batwa pygmy community.
